Comparison of atoms with real world things-Atomic Comparison

Comparison of atom

Comparing atom to the real world things will amaze you and  make you more curious towards the Chemistry subject.

Let's start with some basic and then move on to the comparison part so that you can easily understand the comparison between Atom with human as well as other things.

Basics of Atom

Atom is a basic unit of matter .

Atom is made up of three subatomic particles  protons , Neutrons and electrons.

Central core part of  an Atom is called as Nucleus . Nucleus of an atom is made up of protons and neutrons except Hydrogen atom(H1) containing only 1 proton and no Neutron .

Electron revolve around the nucleus in particular orbit .

Comparing Atom with Nucleus

The size of an atom is about 10^-10 meters and the size of nucleus is about 10^-15 meters . After taking ratio of this two numbers , I  found that atom is 100000 times larger than the nucleus .

Comparing Atom with Earth

A simple (not exact) comparison , Let assume that Atom has a  size  of Earth ,  then the nucleus will be Cricket/football Ground .Yes!! It was also shocking for me when I initially started analyzing atomic data.

Amazing fact about atom

Atom is 99.999% an empty space ,So if you remove all the empty space of an atoms of the earth ,  it will shrink to a size of an Apple or Orange ..

Comparing Atom with A normal Person

A Normal human of about 70kg to 80 kg contains about 7 x 10^27 atoms. That is , 7000000000000000000000000000 atoms . So it simply means that a normal adult contain about billions of billions of billions of atoms in their body.

Atom vs Cell

Atoms are present in human body in the form of cell (basic unit of life) . This atoms combines in such a way that it produces life . So we can say that a single cell is made up of millions of atoms.

Atom vs Sheet of papers

A thick sheet of paper (about 10^-4 m or 0.1mm) contains about 1 million of atoms in that thickness(it means that if you 1 million atoms arranged in a row , then it thickness would  be equal to the size of sheet of paper(about 0.1mm thickness)

Number of atoms in a given mass

Most commonly found Element in living -Organism is Carbon . 1 billions of atoms are present only in 2 X 10^-14 grams of carbon . Yes !!!  You can easily calculate this if you know the formula  to calculate the Number of atoms in particular mass of Element or Substance

Number of atoms

= Number of moles X Avogadro's Number

Number of moles =

Mass of Substance ÷ molar mass of Substance

Avogadro's Number = 6.022 X 10^23

In this way you can also find out the number of atoms in given mass of Element.

From the above examples , I realized that we are comparing a grain of sand with planet.

So this are some interesting size comparison of  an atom with different things .

If you have any amazing facts about an atoms then  , please comment below .

Thanks for reading!!!

Acidic order of Halogens- hydrogen halides acidc strength

Acids are the substance which can donate  Hydrogen ions in solution or the substance which accept electrons . But now the question is how to know which acid is more acidic and which one is less .    For this you have to understand that Strong acid can easily donate H+ This state is valid for the molecules having Hydrogen atom in their molecules . acidic order/ Strength of halogens ( Hydrogen halides ) Hydrogen halides are the molecules having hydrogen and halide group(Fluorine , Chlorine , Bromine and Iodine ) .Bond length between Hydrogen halides increases down the group due to increase in the size of halide atom .  Increasing order of bond length : HI >HBr >HCl> HF Due to increase in bond length , bond strength become weaker down the group . Order of Bond strength : HF >HCl >HBr> HI It means that Hydrogen Iodide(HI) can easily donate proton ( due to weak bond ) into the solution and therefore it is most acidic hydrogen halide  whereas Flouri...

Most acidic Substance in the world-Most acidic compound

Which is the most acidic compound or Substance ? This question is difficult to answer because for this we have to find the acidic strength of all the compounds which are found or exist in nature..But don't worry , we have answer for this question.. First understand which compound is called as  acid Acid are those compound which can easily donate their H+ ion , easily accept an electron pair and show high resonance stabilization .  All this points have to consider while determine the acidic strength of a compound. After considering all this factors , it has been found that the most acidic compound is  Fluoroantimonic Acid . It's also considered as a Super Acid .  Super Acids are acids with acidic strength or acidity greater than 100% pure sulphuric acid Fluoroantimonic Acid is an inorganic  compound having Chemical formula H2SbF7.It is  prepared by reacting Hydrogen Fluoride(HF)and antimony pentachloride(SbF5) in 2 : 1 ratio . It is 10 quadrillion times m...
